capoeira espaco

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying Capoeira Espaco!

Well, I am going to get right to the point here. . .

After a couple talks with my Instructors, and a couple of experiences I've had recently. I have realized that I haven't exactly been very focused on my training. Sure I go to class Regularly, but if anyone is really serious about capoeira being apart of their life. Going to Class 2-3 times a week is just not going to cut it. You have to train outside of class, you need to practice and sing those songs you just went over in class in the shower, in your car, on your way to work. Practice your Portuguese, and anything else you can think of that is important to your growth in capoeira.

I haven't exactly been training as hard as I should be due to the fact that I have been heavily distracted by this website. . .I have tried my best to update this site daily, answer any technical questions you have, try to incorporate other peoples ideas for the site, promoting the site, etc.

If you didn't know, now you know maintaining a website, promoting, and striving for the best is alot of work. Not necessarily hard work, but it can definitely take your mind away from other things. . .like your capoeira training.

Well maybe its just me. . . some of you guys are probably really good at multitasking throughout your day and balancing out enough time for everything. Sadly. . . I'm not exactly gifted with that ability.

When I work on something, its sooo hard for me to stop thinking about it soo much. I dream about it, I wake up thinking about it, go through my day brain storming and trying to find something new to make it better.

This is the same exactly what I should be doing with capoeira. . .

Now with all that said. . . nooooo I'm not abandoning Capoeira Espaco, but I will say I am not going to contribute nearly as much time to this site as I use to.

I hope you all understand and respect that decision. What do wish to ask everyone who is reading this is. . .

If you are a big fan of this website, and enjoy it soo much. . . Please help me to keep this site going. . .

You help in a couple ways:

1. assist new users with questions regarding how to use the site and edit their profiles

2. report any users who appear to be spammers or hackers to Capoeira Espaco Administrators: Myself (compromisso) or Maritaca

3. contribute 1$ a month if you can to help pay the bill for this site ($28)( check out the photo below for the actuall proof bill-statment:

Photobucket

**Remove Ning Promotion Link (is an annoying banner\ad of our service provider Ning.com)

**Run Ads on Your Social Network (this allows me to place or remove profitable google ads on the site like myspace or facebook) I don't know about you but I hate Ads and Popups, unlike myspace or facebook I am not trying to profit from this website thats why you don't see any ads or popups.

Well I think this just about sums up everything I wanted to say. . . I will continue to check the site daily if possible, do some minor administrative work and updates if necessary and get back to my training. I wish you all the best and thank you for your support!

Muito Axe,
Compromisso

I feel you on knowing you NEED more dedication to capoeira. I JUST started and already I can feel it taking over my life...but for now, I have a marathon in 3 months that I must focus on, plus muay Thai training, so I can only give about 4-5 hours a week to my capoeira training. I am looking forward to finishing my marathon so that I can give more time to my game...probably like you're ready to get back to business after getting CapoEspaco off the ground! =)

Where do I sign up to drop a dollar or two into the kitty? I'll gladly help.

Comp, lemme know how I can drop the dollar a month, I can get you that at least. I got you, homie.. You gotta focus on capoeira, the site will do just fine. Do you, man.. Hope you're good and happy training..

So how can I help with this $1 a month?

I know exactly how you feel man, that's how I've kinda been lately too (Capoeira Blog + stuff in life kinda takes over capoeira time). Do what you gotta do my friend, we'll still be here. You've set up a great framework for success here, and it'll keep on keepin on!

i would love to help.

i think my first suggestion would be to make the forum, a real form. Rite now it feels like a blog.

this would be something like:
phpBB - http://www.phpbb.com/

the forum would handle any spammers, faq's, and setup a more community feel for people to talk about specific topics.

i don't know how much access your site give as far as administration, but this is something i'd love to help with.
i wish i could donate money, but i'm steadily tryin' to make that dollar outta 15 cents. You don't work in non-profit world for da money. but it does give me free time.

any daily maintenance that you would like to share the load - feel free to hit me up.

try to send me regular e-mail. i'll send you a personal message with that. i'm sure i can find a free service to post ads too. again, i'd need to know what type of access you have. mainly, can you open a ssh terminal window to access your account. that would be awesome. we can really do some damage then!!! ;-)

Hi Compormisso, I completely understand and I appreciate what you already did with this website.

Just a tiny bit of advice if I may... don't get too anxious about the need to focus 100% on Capoeira training. I don't mean the part about doing less for the website...I understand what a time sink it is and support your decision 100%. I mean the part where you feel you have to be thinking, practicing every moment of your life. I went through a time where all I could think of was Capoeira... then I was letting things slip at work and forgetting my other responsibilities, and that was a big wake up call. The way I see it, learning to multi-task and incorporate Capoeira in your life in a constructive and sustainable way is another phase of one's capoeira development. When I started I thought since I was already 32 I had maybe five to ten years before I'm gonna be too decrepit to do Capoeira. Now I think, we are young (some more so than others) and have a life time to develop our Capoeira, it's not a sprint.

Good luck with everything, and thank you.

Thank you all for your responses and support. In response to Tanay comment:

I totally understand what you mean about capoeira being a distraction, and how it can maybe screw a couple things up in your life outside of capoeira. But thats the same for everything, we can't give something our all at all times of the day. . .its like we can't eat too much of the same food everyday or we might get poisioning or something. I appreciate your the time everyone took and yours for giving me some positive honest feedback. I must say that in a short period of time since I first made this post alot has happened. I don't have enough time right now to explain but I will say I am learning to create a balance of all things in my life. Although there will always be that one thing in my life (capoeira) that I will give abit more of my attention and time to. . .
