capoeira espaco

Summer is coming fast and soon my group will start outdoor trainings. So I need recommendations for good shoes for outdoor capoeira. We train on asphalt, slate stone, sometimes on grass. I'd like something lightweight, not too much of a tread, form-fitting, with some support, but which will still let me feel the ground.

Any ideas?

Soneca! Thanks for the suggestion...I just wish they had some more girly martial arts shoes...cuz you know me, I'm a delicate flower! Obviously too delicate to be barefoot in Prospect park! Lol!

We're usually at the Oriental Pavilion on Saturdays, but we move around. Last year we used the bandshell area after they finished the season's shows. Hopefully we'll start the outdoor classes in May...still waiting for the permit department to get back to us.

Puma...Puma...Puma....did I mention Puma? *grin*

They have a lot of cute selections and you can find the light weight ones with the flexible soles! But u kno, I have to agree with Soneca...if you can go barefoot, then do it! It's so much better..lol!

I use pumas as well...the driving style. I dunno the name of it but the are definitely the best in my opinion. they are pliable, breath well, and last a long time so long as you take care of them. I only use them inside though. Outside is almost exclusively barefoot for me or sometimes I'll use those water shoes. you can find them in lots of colors and they are SUPER cheap. they are lighter and breath better than the pumas. They won't often win you style points but sometimes they look as good as the pumas! just my $0.02.

Ah, if I had the sandy beaches of Florida (or Brazil!) to play on, I'd go barefoot too! but for now I will have to console myself with the rolling hills of my city park...and the great shoe suggestions from all of you!

Thanks, Pipoca! Axé!

Heres the exciting conclusion: After much dedicated shopping and a disappointing showing from Puma :( I discovered Merrell's "Relay Tour" in bright red:

They're mostly mesh, perfect for hot summer days of training, and fit nice and snug, just like my old Pumas. If they don't work out, my next stop is water shoes...thanks, everyone!

What does everyone think of Vibram FiveFingers? (website: http://vibramfivefingers.com/)

They look like a great option...definitely not scoring style points with them, though! I'd love to try a pair on if I could find a store that carries them.

There's also NIke "Free" which has the same concept of "less is more" in terms of cushioning, but I find they don't fit snug enough for our kind of movement.
