capoeira espaco

I think I broke my middle toe yesterday during training. It happened during warm-up and but I did manage to make it through the entire session. Today it's pretty painful, swollen, badly bruised.
I know I'm supposed to stay off it and let it heal. I'm just very frustrated that I won't be able to train for a while and I want to maintain my agility and strength as much as possible.

Can anyone recommend some exercises or movements for me that don't involve lots of footwork but are will help me maintain my strength? Has anyone else out there broken a toe, give me some advice, inspiration, food for thought? I'm pretty bummed I'm not going to be able to train at my full potential for a while.

obrigada,
Flora

My classmate fractured his foot... While it's not the same, I'm sure it's similar... But he's not on capo-espaco. Keep on stretchin' is what I'd do. That, and practice the instruments until they all break, and then fix them and play them until they break again.

Don't focus on the broken toe, but rather look at it as an opportunity to train other things. like one-foot pontes, bananeiras, queda-de-rin (if possible), aus (but very carefully)...

I'm sure we've all got stories of our teachers and injuries... One of mine had a pin in his foot (and he still played, albeit very carefully)... A friend of mine (Espelinha, I'm calling you out!) (PS I think Espelinha is on capo-espaco...) who broke her knee-cap and just recently been able to play some games.

Hi Flora,
sorry about your toe.. i've been there and it is frustrating... as a doctor i would say to give it a little rest.. sometimes, eventhough your not putting pressure directly to the toe, the foot muscles and involved too and might give pain sensation when stimulated, even walking.. so like Leao said, practice other aspects of capoeira: instruments, songs and watch roda videos, etc... sometimes visualizing the game is kind of a mental training.. until you're ready and doesn't bother anymore... also, get an X-ray to make sure its ok and don't cause any trouble in the future... hope this helps and I wish you a quick healing!!! :)
