Oh, you'll also see on the website that we have classes in Northland, Auckland, Mt. Maunganui, Taranaki, Wellington, Wanganui and Christchurch. There's also a guy in Dunedin from a different group. So you have a bunch of options for places to live!

As for Angola vs. Contemporanea, Angola totally rocks. Our group tends largely towards capoeira angola, and there's just so much to it that it's really exciting. I began training Contemporanea, and found it fun, but once I started training Angola I just found that it had so much more depth, and there were so many more places that it could take me, so I was hooked :).

Capoeira angola uses nicknames too, they're part of the capoeira tradition as a whole, but there's not so much of a need to give everyone a name real early on. Some people get names that stick and that fit them well, and others will find that it's more natural to just be called their real name for most of their capoeira life. We have rankings, but not like Contemporanea. We don't use cordoes, we just have students, and then after many years they graduate and earn a title such as Treinel, Contra-Mestre and eventually Mestre.

Rastinha's answer was allready very informative.

As for Angola and Regional... instead asking for an option, I advice you to just try it and see for yourself. Every person is different and every person feels different so, good luck man!
