About Me:
When I came to work in Berne (Switzerland) I could not find any good martial arts club (I started with Kick Boxing and KungFu but didn t like it so much) ... However because I am living near the Capoeira Academia I decided to watch training there once ... I had seen some Capoeira shows in Munich before, but I was more fascinated by martial arts like Taekwondo, that is why I never thought about starting Capoeira before... however when I saw the training methods of this teacher in Berne (Mestre Matias) and the positive energy of the group I was really fascinated and I decided to train there...

At the moment after a bad injury with my arm and some phase of not training which at least is about more than one year now, I have been moving to a city 60 km near Munich. As we do not have Capoeira here and I am still unemployed I still miss the art. Because of some knee problems as well, I am not sure if I will ever be able to restart training properly. I wish of course, but I also learned to express my “saudade” for the art form in other ways. I do paintings, I read and write a lot about the art, I travelled to Bahia to take a glimbs at the roots there … but I am also aware that this will never make me a real “Capoerista” again. As I read in a book about Budosports today, there is no scientific studiing of any form of budo sport. Either you do it or you leave it… Thhat s more or less the feeling I have at the moment too.

tena koe dont know if matt replied to your comment about aotearoas meaning i dont know the guy but i was searching for other new zealanders. aotearoa is the maori name for new zealand translates into land of the long white cloud. as that was what our tupuna (ancestors) saw when they landed, well before the europeans, they thought it was a big cloud at first.

Hi Daniela!

I completely get what you mean about having to reconcile your "rational" personality with capoeira. I definitely remember having thoughts from time to time like "Wait...isn't that a contradiction?...how does that work...that doesn't make sense...where's the logic?!"
But on the other hand, it is that exact ambiguity, and like you said, that "encompassing-everything" quality of capoeira that appeals so much, as well!

It's hard to see the complete extent to which capoeira has changed my life, since the way I fell into it it seems more like it got incorporated into my life and while it definitely enriched it, I don't know if it was a drastic change like flipping around my life, since everything else stayed the same or kept progressing alongside capoeira! What I know has definitely come from capoeira though:
-I'm more open and outgoing, and not *as* afraid to talk to new/different people
-While I wouldn't say I've ever seriously lacked self-confidence or been insecure, capoeira has definitely helped to develop that part of me more as well...solidified or deepened, maybe, what I had to begin with.
-Learning about other lives, backgrounds, and lifestyles from other capoeiristas I've met has been absolutely invaluable to me. Nearly everyone I'd ever met before starting capoeira had a similar background and lifestyle to mine (because it'd be either through family, friends, or school), so this aspect of capoeira was/is a much-needed education.
-love how doing capoeira gives you a hands-on opportunity to learn a new language
-love the music, the fact that you can learn and play music
-With all the disciplines involved in looking at capoeira (anthropology, history, sociology, politics, philosophy, literature, religion, etc.) anything written about capoeira also makes for a fascinating read, and as a bona fide bookworm and liberal arts junkie, I'm always up for those!
-friends; I think it's safe to say that were it not for capoeira, I would have NEVER met some of my friends or really gotten to know them even if I did, because we each have completely different backgrounds and personalities and are doing different things in life.

Anyway, I think I've gone on for long enough now! But thank you for asking me that question...it's amazing when you stop and actually think about it. And I agree, sometimes it seems there is nothing that cannot be related to capoeira (or at least my non-capoeira friends think so whenever they hang out with me)!

Hey thanx for the reply. First thing is that I am not a Taoist I just like that philosophy and second yes you kinda misunderstood what you read only a little.:) The part about destiny is not really that my or our life is already destined but that you are in control of your own destiny/life no one else is, whatever happens to you/us is because of the choices you/we have made, nobody else controls our lives, our actions, our choices, we all decide on our own depending on what life has to bring us... We can never be certain of what the future holds for us because we dont know the future all we got is now the present to deal with, So depending on what our choices are today is what will in some way define our future. Thats why i say go with the flow. Here is one of my personal quote:)

"Go with the flow...you'll tend not to be bothered as much by the common annoyances of life......"
