- Roda Magazine was started because:
We love capoeira.
We love going to events and playing capoeira with different people (it makes us better capoeiristas).
We could not find a source that would tell us about all the capoeira events going on.
We assumed that other people felt our frustration.
Our goal is to promote capoeira as a whole and provide information about capoeira events.
If you have an upcoming batizado, troca de corda, encounter, workshop, open roda, street roda, fundraiser, performance, or party, please let us know.

Special week of Capoeira in New York City from October 20 to 26, 2008
Hi Members and Friends of Grupo Ginga,
We will have a special week of Capoeira in New York City from October 20 to 26, 2008. There will be workshops with Mestres from Brazil and a “palestra” or lecture on Capoeira by Mestre Itapoan at our Batizado. All events are open to the public. Please come and join us!
All workshops listed below are at:
56 Essex Street (On the corner of Grand Street)
F Train to East Broadway or Essex/Delancey
MUSIC OF TRADITIONAL CAPOEIRA REGIONAL
With Professor Kiki da Bahia
Monday October 20 at 7pm – 9pm
Learn how to play traditional Ritimos of Regional like BANGUELA, AMAZONAS and IDALINA. Please bring your berimbau if you have one.
CAPOEIRA REGIONAL SEQUENCIA WITH MESTRE PAULAO
Tuesday October 21 at 7pm – 9pm
Study the foundation of Capoeira Regional through Mestre Bimba’s sequencia.
FUNDAMENTALS OF CAPOEIRA REGIONAL WITH MESTRE ITAPOAN
Sunday October 26 at 5pm – 7pm
As one of Mestre Bimba’s original students, Mestre Itapoan will teach techniques from the roots of Capoeira Regional.
All workshops are $30 each or all three for $75.
9th ANNUAL GRUPO GINGA BATIZADO
Saturday October 25 at 1pm – 5pm
*Location: 220 Henry Street – F train to East Broadway
Watch a special orixa dance performance and listen to an orchestra of berimbaus. Hear a lecture by the esteemed Mestre Itapoan, watch a capoeira performance, batizado ceremony and the exciting roda and samba de roda.
Join us for the After Party at SOB’s!
