capoeira espaco

Yo, what's good all my capoe espaco homies...
Oh my goodness I'm stoked, we just had Carnival Brasil, and it was incredible. So much good music, so much dancing.. From like 7 to 2am it was the illest.. We gave a capoeira performance/workshop and even though there were only like, 6 of us (and some of them are pretty new) we rocked it out. Everyone def stepped up and in the eyes of several hundred people, and a bunch of brasilians, shined.
After the opening roda, my very good friend Canario (who rocked the berimbau for the whole performance, could not have happened without him) introduced me and I taught a mini workshop.. at first no one stepped forward, and I was minorly concerned. And then; 6 people... Then 15 people... Now 25.. and more and more.. We had almost 50 people step up and learn! They learned ginga, meia lua de frente and esquiva lateral like, beautiful in only like, 10 minutes. I was so happy to see so many people enjoy capoeira..
We ended with an open roda and flushed out some capoeiristas in the crowd, including a FICA angoleiro with a beautiful game, and a lot of the people we had just shared some basics with decided to play and have their first jogo! I couldn't stop smiling...
And I couldn't have been prouder of my friends and peers and students, seeing them perform their solos (only 3 of us had one) and nail them under a fair bit of pressure. For some this was the first time playing in front of others..
Palminia did a sick, super stretched out bananeira (the best I've ever seen from him) to end his.. Urubu pulled out a dope au sem mao (the aerial kind) and he just learned 'em a day or two before. His whole solo flowed really nice and he got people live.. And my solo... just feel like I represented myself how I wanted. Did the fastest au batido I've ever done, and ended with a 720 piao de cabeca, no wobbles or nothin' I was so stoked.. (That's for you Caju!)
Best of all we represented capoeira and ourselves in a positive way; played angola and contemperanea, had a ton of fun and got a bunch of new people aware, interested, and excited about capoeira!! We danced and had more jogo's late into the night, and another amazing thing about this was all the money went to Students helping International Street Kids. It's a day after the fact and I'm still on cloud 9.
Salve my friends, hope you all are fantastic and enjoying the jogo of life!
